Scholarships for Chicago Public School Students

Who is Eligible?

The Lycée Francais has partnered with a number of organizations and individuals committed to sponsoring scholarships for CPS students.  Applications will be accepted for participation in Session 1, 2, or 3 of World Camp in Summer 2025.  Applicants must be: 

  1. Enrolled in a Chicago Public School, and entering grades 3-8 in 2025.
  2. Interested in a camp experience with daily exposure to one of the 5 World Camp languages.
  3. Committed to learning basic language skills.
  4. Open to exploration and discovery of other cultures.

How to Apply:

Student Application for a scholarship to a World Camp Session includes:

  1. Essay by student. This offers the student an opportunity to present:
    • Personal, family and school background
    • Reasons for interest in exploring another culture and learning its language
    • What they're expecting from their World Camp experience
  2. Parent statement that supports child’s participation in the World Camp session.  Text may include parents’ motivation for having child participate in culture-based summer program, information about child’s exposure to other cultures and information to indicate that the child is interested in participating in a culture and language-based program.
  3. Teacher statement which supports student’s application to the program, providing information about student’s ability to participate in activity-based academic and recreational activities.
    • Teacher statement must include first and last name, CPS email address, and phone number. This statement must be sent both to parents and to worldcamp@lyceechicago.org.

Please submit your complete application by March 30, 2025 to be considered. Recipients will be announced on April 4, 2025.

The Swiss Benevolent Society of Chicago was founded in the aftermath of the great Chicago Fire of 1872.  For over 150 years, the Society has been supporting individuals and families in financial need and works now to also promote programming that highlights Swiss culture.  As part of its scholarship offerings, the Society is pleased to partner with the Lycée Français, the German International School of Chicago and the Scuola Italiana Enrico Fermi to offer scholarships to CPS students in the French, German and Italian World Camps in Summer 2025.

A number of anonymous donors are also supporting applications in Arabic and Mandarin.
